C’était un Rendez-Vous (It Was an Appointment): The Complete Film

| четверг, 1 октября 2009 г.

I suggest watching in full screen mode

C’était un Rendez-Vous is a 8 minute French film from 1976. It shows a manic drive through Paris in the early hours of the morning, accompanied by sounds of a high-revving engine, gear changes and squealing tires. Nothing was staged, it was an actual drive, and after the film was released, the director was supposedly arrested. Pedestrians and pigeons are passed and nearly ran over, red lights are ignored, one-way streets are driven up the wrong way… it’s just beautiful high-speed lunatic driving.

The film was shot in a single take by the director and driver, Claude Lelouch. He used a gyro-stabilized camera mounted on the bumper of his 6.9 liter Mercedes-Benz 450SEL.

The sound effects, which include gear changes up to 5th gear, as well as heel-and-toe down-shifting were actually taken from Lelouch’s Ferrari 275GTB. Lelouch claims he got up to 140 mph during the run, although people who have tried to calculate the speed have come up with different results. Some say he never topped 85 mph, while others estimate the car peaked at 135 mph. Either way, it’s a fantastic film.

NBC and Knight Rider Producers choose the Shelby GT500KR Mustang as KITT: Good Choice?

| среда, 19 августа 2009 г.

It seems the brain-trust at NBC has worked out the deal with Ford to use the 2008 Shelby GT500KR as the new car for the rebirth of the Knight Rider TV series in the coming year. The revival of the Knight Rider series has been in talks for a little while now, but the speculation on the car was always left lingering. So for all of those complaining that there are already too many Specialty Mustangs on the market you may have just received the empirical evidence you needed that Ford has gone too far and that NBC has just alienated a partial fanbase. But maybe we are being too negative here?

We will post the official NBC Press Release below for those interested in learning more about the stars and the plot for the 2-hour TV Premier movie that will set the show off. Most of us here though are more curious about the car choice and the adornments that have cluttered the skin of of the GT500KR. (more…)
